Through a message on social networks, Correa once again vindicated his innocence in the face of the sentence of eight years in prison and political disqualification that was imposed on him in 2020 for bribery in the case ‘Sobornos 2012-2016’, where both he and several of his collaborators were convicted for the irregular funding of Alianza País, the ruling political movement at that time.
“The human evil… overlook that no one in the world has accepted the sentence for ‘psychic influence’ and that five countries have given political asylum to those involved in the Bribery case. They even fuck my family No right!” , said Correa, who always questions that in the sentence where he was sentenced he was attributed ‘psychic influence’ on the others involved.
In another post, Correa launched several “hypotheses of this new idiocy made by the gringos”, among which he mentioned a possible revenge “for (Julian Assange)”, founder of WikiLeaks who Ecuador gave asylum in his embassy in London while he was called by the US Justice.
The former president also commented that it can be “a distractor to divert attention from the disaster of the government of (Daniel) Noboa, at its worst” with an increase in blackouts scheduled up to ten hours a day due to the serious energy crisis affecting the country.
He also mentioned that this ban may be due to a possible “involvement (of the United States) in the Ecuadorian election campaign” for the 2025 elections, where his candidate Luisa González is one of the main favorites in the polls conducted so far, Together with President Noboa.
This Wednesday, the US State Department announced that Correa and Glas are banned from entering the country “for their involvement in significant cases of corruption during their time in public office”.
Thus, the administration of Joe Biden denied him access to entry visas, a measure that includes immediate family members such as wives and children.
